Audio track colors

I know how to change the colors of different tracks, but am wondering if there is a way to sort of automate it? What I’d like to do is when recording a new track have it be a new color from the last track. Anyone know if this is possible somehow? I’ve searched a bit and played with macros, but this is beyond my skill set. Thanks!!

I can’t think of a good way to do that, but you could create 4 keyboard shortcuts (one for each colour), so that changing the colour of a track is just a single key press. If that would be useful for you, then I’ll type out instructions for how to do that.

That would be very useful! At least it would be more efficient. Thank you.

I’ll give an example for a red waveform.
First, you need to create a macro:

  1. Create a new macro (See: Macros - Audacity Manual)
  2. Add the command “Set Track Visuals”.
  3. Click the “Edit” button, and set these options:
  4. Click “OK”

Then create a keyboard shortcut to your macro. See: Shortcuts Preferences - Audacity Manual

Assuming that works for you, repeat all the steps to create macros for the 4 colour options, and separate keyboard shortcuts for each.
