Risking the appearance of total newcomer (which I am even if I read tutorial and searched the forum) I have a question, and I need to solve this issue so I’d appreciate any attempt at helping me.
Here’s exactly what “happened”, the steps I took, that is (I use Windows BTW, so I’m in the right forum):
Installed the recommended version of Audacity.
Followed steps in this tutorial: http://www.instructables.com/id/Drum-Beats-in-Audacity/ up until the beginning of step 3 where I encountered the problem I’m askin about; also, if it matters, there was no C:/Program Files/Audacity/Plug-Ins in my directories so I copied the 14kb seq.ny file to C:/Program Files (x86)/Audacity/Plug-Ins instead. (I hope this was the right decision.)
Opened Audacity and looked for Audio Selection Sequencer 2 in the Effects menu. As a matter of fact, it is listed, but it’s not clickable (the option is grey, not black).
I wonder how I can solve this issue and get around to making my beats?
(This is my first post on the forum, Hi all, and hope my question isn’t annoying you.)
1.) You Must Select the segment from track.
Or
2.) Make sure you have pressed the Stop Button
or
3.) Make sure you restart the Audacity application After executing plugins
Make sure you check above three steps before attempting to execute the plugins.
Please state which version of Windows you are using, the exact three-section version of Audacity from Help > About Audacity and whether you obtained the .exe installer or the zip.
Windows 7 Home Premium
Audacity 2.0.5 (.exe installer)
But the point I was trying to achieve was to create some drum sequences with those drum sounds that I downloaded from that tutorial I linked, and to add some harmonies etc later on. I want to sequence some of those drum sounds and go from there. I don’t want to start with sound from one of my CDs (or anything like that).
I did restart the app before trying, and nothing was playing. I want to make some music from scratch, not edit or mix any premade music.
Click the green Play button to play audio. Press the yellow Stop button before using the effect.
We are not responsible for tutorials written by others, but on Windows you won’t see Plug-ins in groups of 15. Just try selecting the name of the effect, after pressing the Stop button.
OK well I seem to be gettin on with things, and thanks a lot for the information that I need to select some sound first. I think the tutorial I use is fine by the way, it’s just that I’ve never tried to make music with a computer before.
I’m used to drum machines where the sequencer is a grid that you place different sounds in, now this seems to be somewhat different.
I have downloaded 4 tracks of drum sounds, and changed them from stereo to mono tracks as instructed. When trying to download the “Audio Selection Sequencer 2” download, all I get is a window with code??
Do I need to copy & paste this code somewhere? If so, under what menu in Audacity do I access, and where does it get pasted?
Ultimately, I’m trying to create drum track sequences for a song. I’m NOT new to drum or song software sequencing, but yes, I’m NEW to Audacity!
Depending on your web browser, you probably need to do something like:
“Right Click on link → Save Target As”
and then save the file somewhere convenient.
