I’m running Audacity version 3.7.3 on windows 10. I have my turntable plugged in to the green audio jack input on the back of my computer. But when I try to select “stereo” recording the only option is “mono”. When I got to “tracks” on the tool bar the select “add new” then select “stereo track” only 1 channel shows while recording? Any help would be much appreciated.
Go into the Windows control panel and make sure your soundcard is set to stereo.
BTW - Green is normally the speaker output but sometimes the connections are configurable. Blue is normally line-in. Soundcard color codes.
Thanks DVDdoug. I can’t really find where to configure the soundcard. I’ll keep looking around in the settings though.
I’m on Windows 11 at the moment, but I the 1st step is the same -
You can right-click on the speaker-volume and then select Sound Settings to open the sound control panel.
I think this is for Win10. It shows how to configure the microphone for one channel but I think you can figure it out from there…
OK thanks. I’ll see what I find.
This issue is often linked to either the input device settings or Audacity’s audio preferences. Make sure your microphone or interface actually supports stereo recording—many only capture in mono. In Audacity, go to Edit > Preferences > Devices
and ensure the recording channels are set to 2 (Stereo). Also, check your system’s sound settings to confirm stereo input is enabled.
