Any time I import a .wav or .mp3 in audacity, it is substantially quieter than how it sounds in windows media player, and the source where I ripped the audio from (spotify). This is making it problematic to edit, because I can’t accurately edit it when the volume is so much quieter.
It is something to note that it returns to regular volume after exporting.
Things I have tried
Playback slider at the top is set to 100%, still quiet
Audacity is set to 100 in the windows volume mixer, still quiet.
Edit: This occurs for any audio I import, its not just a specific file.
That’s weird… 100% should be the same in Audacity and Windows Media Player. A 0dB peak at 100% volume should max-out the DAC in any application.
Spotify (and other streaming services) will usually be quieter than the purchased MP3 or CD because they use loudness matching (AKA loudness normalization) to keep everything about they same volume. If you record from Spotify you’ll get the same (usually quieter) volume.
Any guesses on how to fix this? Extremely frustrating to have to export to listen to each edit, then repeat. Going to have to do this hundreds of times at this rate.
