Audacity thinks my earphones are the mic

In the Recording Device field Audacity lists my earphones. I have checked Windows 11 settings and confirmed that Apps are allowed to access microphone.

And Audacity cant see the microphone so you can select it?

Got a result now by selecting Microsoft Sound Mapper, but no, the only alternative it offers is the earphones.

That’s weird… Usually if Windows can find it, Audacity can find.

Try Listen To This Device to make sure Windows is getting a signal.

How are the headphones connected? If it’s the socket on the side of your laptop, that may be the connection for a HeadSet, not simple headphones.

That’s two earmuffs and a tiny boom microphone by your cheek. Also the plug is actually different from simple headphones and you may be giving the computer contradictory messages.
