Audacity says another copy is running [SOLVED]

I am getting a message that ‘another copy of Audacity is running’ when I try to initiate the program. Force Quit shows no Audacity. I deleted the software and re-downloaded. Still get the same message. “Audacity” appears on top line of Desktop, with no commands.

I had a minor mishap … foot in headphone cord … moved computer and disconnected the off board drive I use for .aup files. Don’t think that would cause this. Any ideas?

Try rebooting the computer.

If that doesn’t fix it:

  1. Click on the “Go” menu, and choose “Go to Folder”
  2. Copy and paste this location: ~/Library/Application Support/audacity/
  3. Look in the SessionData folder and trash any file you find there.

I had tried reboot … your second solution was OUTstanding. I probably should have figured that out myself BUT having an expert answer makes it much less nerve-racking to push that purge button

Thanks
