Audacity & Roland Studio Capture

I’m an Audacity newbie using Audacity 2.0.6 on Windows 8.1. I’m trying to record from my new Roland Studio Capture, a 16-channel interface device. All post-processing, including mix-down, will be done elsewhere. The input to the Roland will be from my analog mixer. When I installed the Roland driver, it created eight devices labeled “1-2 (STUDIO-CAPTURE)”, “3-4 (STUDIO CAPTURE)”, and so forth through “15-16 (STUDIO CAPTURE)”. I will need to record anywhere from two to sixteen individual tracks, but I don’t see how to associate a track with a device and how to deal with the duality (two channels per device).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Audacity Multichannel Recording.

I think most people doing multitrack recording are using a DAW (Reaper, Sonar, Cubase, etc.).

In other words, this won’t work unless you can see a Multi device and set Audacity to record all 16 channels, closing the empty tracks after recording.

You can try the Audacity 2.1.0 pre-release (2.1.0rc2) from the top of gaclrecords.org.uk and choose the Windows WASAPI host in Device Toolbar. There is a small chance that host will give you one Roland recording device rather than break the channels up into separate stereo devices. You may still need to record all the channels to record the ones you want.

Otherwise the only solution is to compile Audacity with ASIO support: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/ASIO_Audio_Interface .
