Audacity repeatedly freezing when importing file on Mac

I’ve been having this issue for a hot minute and it’s getting increasingly annoying. Whenever I open a new audacity project and drop in (or import) an audio file, it freezes up completely and stops responding.

I’ve let it sit on not responding once for 2 or so hours, and it was still frozen. I’m not sure whether or not it’s the audio file I’m attempting to import (which is just music in .wav format), Audacity itself, or if it’s my computer, which would be the worst outcome. And from what I’ve tested, any file that’s above 3 minutes crashes Audacity.

The memory on my computer is pretty free, and no applications I have typically eat it up, so if ANYBODY has a solution to this issue PLEASE reply and let me know. Gettin’ kinda desperate…

update: went back to an older version of audacity and it didnt freeze

Which version did you land on? There are three “hero” versions: 3.3.3, 3.4.2, and 3.6.2.

You need the later ones to use the on-line audio.com digital storage, but you need the earlier one to open your older projects.

went with 3.7.0 cus my brain was telling me that 3.7.1 was also having the same issue

If that’s working for you, stick with it. The fuzzy rule is x. x. 2 is the first stable update in a series, but 3.7.x didn’t work that way.
