Audacity not picking up mic - only recording external sounds

I have a Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 and am using Audacity 2.0.6

I have a quicktap recording device which I plug into the audio output jack. For some reason Audacity records all external noise as if there is no microphone registered. It should only be recording what is coming through the phone line…

If anyone could give me advice it would be so helpful. I’ve messed with the settings on audacity and even bought a new quicktap to see if the problem was there…it’s still not working.

All help is appreciated, thank you!!

Audacity 2.0.6 does not officially support Yosemite. The next 2.1.0 release will probably do so.

Which is an output, not an input. If that is your only audio port, have you looked in Sound in System Preferences as to whether you can change that output to an input? If you can change it to an input, select that input in Audacity’s Device Toolbar.

If that audio port is only an output but accepts a four-position TRRS headset jack, you might be able to get an adaptor for the QuickTap device’s cable. Is this what you have QuickTap - JK Audio ?
