Audacity not exporting at expected rate anymore

Hello everyone,

Apologies in advance if I use incorrect terminology at any point in this post. Hopefully it will be clear enough what I am asking about, even though I’m no audio engineer. I’m just a guy looking to archive his music collection.

I’ve used Audacity for several years now to digitize tapes and records for safe keeping, and up until today it has worked very well. I am running Windows 10 on a desktop PC, and using a surely outdated version of Audacity (1.3), but I have had no problems with it until earlier today.

The problem is this: I export everything as lossless WAV files using the export format “WAV (Microsoft) signed 16 bit PCM”. The project rate is set to 44100 Hz, and the resulting files have a bit rate of 1411 kbps (which I understand is the standard for CD-quality sound).

Or at least they did until today. For some reason, today my Audacity program apparently decided that even though I’ve kept all the settings as they are described above, it is now going to start exporting things at a resulting bitrate of 706 kbps. I don’t know why this is happening, as I’ve changed absolutely nothing from the setup that I had working and exporting standard CD-quality WAV files at 1411 kbps as recently as this 8:06 this morning (it is now 11:44 pm, and the change to this new, worse rate apparently happened at some point between 8:06 and 11:07 am).

I looked all around this forum and other places before deciding to register here to ask this question, as I was unable to find an answer as to why this is happening, or how to fix it. All the answers I did find for similar problems reminded the questioner to have the project rate set to 44100 Hz and to select the appropriate WAV file option to achieve the desired 1411 bit rate, but I already have those settings selected and yet this is still happening.

If anyone has any insight or suggestions as to how I can fix this, I would very much appreciate your help. Thank you in advance.

That’s a mono file. One blue wave or timeline instead of two.

All that and Stereo. You missed one specification.
