Audacity new proposed visual identity

Hello, I’m Sandi Hidayat, and I’d like to propose a new visual identity for Audacity. After using Audacity for several years I feel that a more vibrant, relevant, and competitive identity is needed. I’ve included the logo design here, for further explanation of the idea and description, please see the following link. Hopefully, it will resonate with you.

Thank you.

You’ve created something less recognizable (& more generic) than the current Audacity logo …

Audacity is a tool and I care about the logo just about as much as I care about the logo on my hammer or drill.

…But if/when Audacity updates the logo, at least they don’t have to worry about updating the signs on their buildings, delivery trucks, stationary, business cards, product packaging, etc.

Thanks for the feedback, but I consider the current Audacity logo which uses a lot of gradient colors and too much detail is no longer relevant. The current logo should be clearly visible in both small and large sizes, and a simple logo will be more recognizable. For generics, if you search for similar shapes, there will be many, I can’t 100% make one that doesn’t exist on the internet. I made it to fit the identity of Audacity and brought it to a more distinctive shape that represents the core of the software.

I really like this i would LOVE for this to be adopted. I think it would give Audacity much more credibility with new users who see the UI and assume the software is outdated.

yeah that’s true, my considering not just about the logo also the whole identity included. and i think the current identity is outdated, and in need of a refreshment. i’m happy to help them to make new changes

Who is responsible for a decision like this? is there a person or a specific committee?

Correct me if i’m wrong here, but it feels like there is a significant amount of reluctance around any cosmetic/design changes, despite many designers contributing options over recent years that are objectively better than the current official design.

Where is the blockage? or at least a clear explanation of the delay?

Your basically saying “Who cares about veteran users that have been using Audacity since before you were even born”, why does everything always have to be modernized, I hate modernization because it usually looks like crap. I like the current logo, we don’t need a modern generic unrecegnizable logo. I hate it when the new kiddies on the block want to change everything. People my age (over 40) may be old but we are not dead! Why does everything in this world today always have to revolve around people ages 18-30 and the rest us old people are ignored. Who cares what people over 40 want even though it was people our age and older that invented or built Audacity. It isn’t just the young that use Audacity. I like the new flat interface theme but I would hate to lose that charming logo that is so well known. Why fix what isn’t broken, why mess with such a chaming well known logo?

I couldn’t agree more. The thing that matters to me is that it does the job that I got it for, reliably.

The purpose of a logo is to act as a graphic mark or emblem to aid identification and recognition.
Audacity’s decades long history has made the “blue headphones with fiery stuff” instantly recognisable to millions of people.

That would be Muse Group: https://www.mu.se/

I couldn’t have put it better myself. Amen to that.
