Even though this has been posted before, I’m not very technically savvy at code. I’ve tried entering people’s code responses from earlier resolved questions into terminal, but with no success. The error message, “Audacity is already running” says that “another copy of Audacity is running” even though I have restarted my computer multiple times, while having also removed and re-installed Audacity. I do know that after Audacity crashed and froze my computer, I was forced to shut down my computer. Since then, the error message has appeared every time. If someone would be kind enough to tell me in simpler terms what to look for in terminal and step by step solutions, that would be lovely. I appreciate any help on this matter. Thank you!
That is rare on Macs and you should take it very seriously, although it is not Audacity that crashes your computer because it does not have kernel privileges to do that.
I would recommend to begin with opening Finder then use the Go > Utilities menu to open Disk Utility. Select your system drive and Verify Disk and then when that’s done, Repair Permissions.
Restart your Mac while holding the “shift” key. That will land you in a mode without startup apps and non-Apple kernel extensions loaded. Release the Shift key when you see the desktop.
Let your Mac sit idle for at least an hour. Then restart normally and see if the error is still there.

And I will now be using the 2.1.0 version.
