I just upgraded to Ubuntu 26.04 LTS from 25.10.
Suddenly Audacity, while recording, uses up all memory and freezes. It never did this in 25.10. Its also the first since using it throughout Windows 7 and 10.
Surely its a Ubuntu thing but why only in some distros. I tried Mint 2 years back and wasn’t impressed. Ubuntu works well except with Audacity. Its very frustrating because Audacity is an awesome program but I now am looking at other apps for recordings. I can only hope Ubuntu find the hick-up and fix it.
Jakes.
Yes, that is weird and annoying.
I am the exact opposite. I much prefer Mint having used it for 15+ years. What’s exceptional about it is that it is unexceptional, if that makes sense. Mind you, the current Mint is based on 24.04 not 26.04 so maybe problems await further down the line. I don’t have problems with Audacity though.
My plan B is Ocenaudio which is great as long as you don’t need multi-track recordings. If you do need that, try a proper DAW. Try recording with Ocenaudio and editing with Audacity and see how that pans out.
Thank you evilmrb, I will do that and see…
