Audacity doesn't recognise my Keyboard?

Audacity Projects look like this.

The AUP file has the text programming to tell Audacity what to do with all that stuff inside the _DATA folder. The two need to have the same name as each other and when they were created and they need to be in the same place, folder or directory. I got that picture from my desktop.

Hi there,

Yes thanks I’ve got it regarding the folders. Hopefully it doesn’t come to that.

I tried the audio lead out the headphone socket from the keyboard directly into my laptop but it didn’t work. So I’ve ordered another lead as I’m hoping to run it through my Akai interface somehow. Will report back once the lead arrives.

I’m normally pretty on the ball with this sort of thing so I’m hoping it will be sorted once the lead arrives.

Thanks again

Lee

In what way didn’t it work? Distorted, mono recording?

Nothing. No signal at all being picked up on Audacity. I’m stumped at the moment.

The manual is terrible that came with the keyboard so messaged the Casio forum but that was the same day I posted a thread on here and heard nothing back so I give up on them!

Only thing I can think is the drivers haven’t installed correctly. When I first attached the keyboard nothing came up about installing drives but when I checked they were showing as being installed correctly. Is there anything I’m missing on the Audacity side of things?

Thanks

Lee

Choose the correct external mic recording device in Audacity’s Device Toolbar.

You won’t hear what you are playing unless you enable Software Playthrough in Audacity, which will be delayed playthrough through the computer, or unless you have an adaptor to split the phones out of the keyboard to two outputs and put headphones in the second output.

I can’t guarantee that it’s set up correctly in preferences but 99% certain it is. I’ve been recording acoustic guitar over the past month using a blue yeti mic with no problems. So can’t understand why I’m having issues with the keyboard. I will double check the settings tomorrow as can’t get to my laptop tonight. I will have another look into it all tomorrow as I don’t get much chance due to work commitments!

Thanks again

Lee

Ok it’s sorted!

I ended up doing the following - instrument lead out of headphone socket on keyboard into my Akai EIE interface. Then simply attaching the Akai to the laptop. I tried numerous ways to bypass the Akai & go straight into my laptop but it wasn’t happeing. I got there in the end.

I now need to link my Alesis DM6 drumkit to my laptop. I’ve figured out it’s going to be the same process so ordered another lead the same although it requires a small 3.5mm jack. But should be all good.

Thank you all so much for your help. So much better than the official Casio forum. I wanted to get all this running through Audacity as I think it’s such a good easy to use programme.

Thanks

Lee

Hi I am trying the same way but Audacity still does not recognize my keyboard, I have connected my cables from Phone output of keyboard to Audio interface , my audio interface is connected to my laptop. My laptop is detecting the keyboard in Recording devices but Audacity is not able to detect the same. Is there any setting in Audacity that we need to check

What audio interface do you have?

Does your interface have a headphone jack, and are you getting any sound in your headphones? (Sometimes it has to go-through the computer and sometimes not.)

Check your Privacy Settings.

Try Listen To This Device to make sure Windows is getting a signal.

I suspect this is all made more difficult because windows updates have now buried the simple control panel interface which shows playback and recording devices. I strongly advise using the run command, usually found by right click of the windows start button and type in
mmsys.cpl
this panel shows the devices and the volume level of signal going through them.

Once this is showing the expected devices and signals these should also be accessible in Audacity.
