Audacity crashes when trying to save files

Every time I go to save a file, it opens the directory, then the whole thing crashes and closes and gives me an error message. Literally only started a couple hours ago after I even recorded and saved a file without issue. Tried again for an audiobook chapter I’m recording and since then it just keep crashing on me.

Uninstalled and reinstalled it and it’s still happening. I can still save word and video files to the drive and all diagnostics say it’s working fine, but for some reason Audacity, whether the same one I’ve been using or a fresh install keeps crashing whenever I go to save the file. I’m still able to save documents and video files to the drive and all diagnostics say it’s fine. Just Audacity. Anyone have any experience with this?

Problem report states:

exception code 0xc0000005
Crash reason: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION_WRITE

Crash address: 0xc6a61fb730

Process uptime: 150 seconds

When I click “send” for the crash report, it flashes an error message saying it can’t send it which disappears before I can even read it. Any thoughts?

Huh…weird. Just gave that a try and yeah, fine when doing that. So strange. I’ve been recording professionally with this install for almost a year now without issue then today, poof. Even recorded a short bit for a client without issue, then went to do my chapter, recorded the whole thing (thankfully only 14 minutes, but it was good…) and then bam, crash upon saving.

Kept happening and happening and your solution worked. So…guess that’s what I’ll be doing until I and/or they figure this out. Thanks Bill!

With three people reporting this in the last two days, perhaps this a Windows update thingy?

Same problem here, it crashes when the file dialog opens. Saving with crtl+s works.
