Just updated to 3.7.7, was using a previous version when the issue occurred but the problem did not go away with update, or attempted recovery via audacity-project-tools. Was working on a project for hours with no problems and saving regularly. Imported a track and started clipping things, but application started to have some visual glitches (whiting out the workspace, not loading) so I quickly saved and closed the application to avoid a full crash.
When I reopened, a seemingly random selection of audio clips had completely vanished, including a vocal track that I’d split up and sentence mixed (so there were multiple clips that were gone, but some short clips were still there, in place). I had a percussion track with a repeated drum (a short clip I had just copypasted several times) and every single repetition was gone, but a different clip I added, as well as some more heavily edited copies of the repeated clip, were still intact. My temp files are gone; SessionData is completely empty; Recycle Bin has no trace of deleted versions. Every time I reopen the project, it’s the same - it seems like the crash deleted a bunch of tracks and as I frantically saved it overwrote the previous version with all those tracks gone??? What’s going on?
I’m just about to the point that I’ve accepted the loss (about 8 hours of editing down the drain), but how do I ensure this doesn’t happen in the future? (and is there ANY possible way I can get that previous version back???)
