Audacity can't find FFmpeg

just downloaded fresh install, version 2.1.0 exe
Using Windows 7 Pro
On program start says it can’t load FFmpeg
Under Preferences/Libaries, I direct it to folder “FFmpeg 0.62 for Audacity” folder (which I downloaded from http://lame.buanzo.org/#lamewindl) and to avformat-52.dll.
It doesn’t find it!
I get the Ffmpeg exe and install it (which goes into C:/program files this time.
Still Audacity does not load avformat-52.dll .
The Library reads “FFmpeg library not found” !!! :frowning:

There is a button to download lame, and FFmeg. Neither does anything!! Luckily it did find Lame

Any answers??

(I need it to import an mp4 video to extract the audio)

I get the Ffmpeg exe and install it

Hmmm… I wonder if you have more than one version loaded on your computer… I seem to have a later version “55”.

I found this - C:\Program Files\FFmpeg for Audacity*avformat-55.dll*

(I need it to import an mp4 video to extract the audio)

If you can’t get it working, try TAudioConverter. I believe it can extract audio from an A/V file.

SUPER can also do it, but be careful with that one Their website is tricky so make sure you’re downloading SUPERsetup.exe, and when you install it, be careful about what boxes you check because it might try to install some crapware (or scan your computer afterwards).

You must have downloaded from Audacity download | SourceForge.net then.

That is no longer the Audacity download location and will not be receiving new releases of Audacity.

I recommend you download the current Audacity 2.1.1 from Audacity ® | Download for Windows and download future versions from that site.

As Doug pointed out, you downloaded the wrong FFmpeg. From Audacity Manual

The previous FFmpeg 0.6.2 for Audacity will not be recognized by Audacity 2.0.6 and later

So get FFmpeg 2.2.2, not 0.6.2.
