2.0.5 should not be crashing often. Do you mean it is hanging often? What are you trying to do when Audacity hangs or crashes?
Please make sure you followed Installation: Do NOT run Audacity from the DMG!!!! and that you are not running Audacity from the DMG.
Did you see an Automatic Crash Recovery dialogue when you restarted Audacity? That dialogue would have been for any unsaved changes. If you saw that dialogue, was the waveform silenced then? If the waveform was silenced and you saved it as a project then that project is silence now.
Otherwise, open the AUP file in TextEdit. Drag some of the AU files listed in the AUP file from their “d” folder in in “/Volumes/Student File Share/aguilar130/Ryan Smith Mixed Emotions/MixedEmotions_data/e00/” into Audacity. Are the files silenced?
If those files have usable audio please attach the AUP file. See How to attach files to forum posts .
Note that if that Student File Share is a network drive you should not set your Audacity temporary directory there - it will be too slow.
