Audacity and the Akai EIE Pro Interface

I recently bought an Akai EIE four channel USB A to D / D to A interface. I wanted to take some four channel files I have edited on Audacity and play them back through this outboard gear and record each channel on another multitrack recorder.

I thought if I set each of the four tracks to mono, they would play back via USB track for track. They did not, they were all jammed mono.

So is what I want to do possible in Audacity? Or is Audacity only capable of playing back mono or stereo via USB to an Akai D to A interface?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

We sort of semi-determined in other posts that it requires ASIO software to do its tricks. Audacity doesn’t directly support ASIO.
