Audacity 4 (REQ): New Clip on Timeline

This is something that has been a want for as long as I’ve been using Audacity. Is there any way you can make it possible to import a new clip (from dropping a file) at a specific spot on the timeline?

I often work with long files (3-4 hours) and dropping in a short clip (less than a minute) make you have to refocus to the start of the file, zoom in cut the clip, go back to where you were and paste the clip.

Here is a thought experiment. I don’t have Audacity in front of me to test it right now.
Go to the spot in the long track where you want to mix in the short track. Split the long clip there. Import the short track, and (if necessary) move it up to right below the long track. Select the first half of the (now split) long track, and while holding down the Shift key, select the short track. The first part of the split clip and the short clip should now be selected. On the menu, click Tracks, then Align Tracks, then click Align End To End.
This should move the short imported track to right after the point where the larger track was split.
You can join the large track back together if you want, but if you aren’t moving the whole thing just leaving it split harms nothing.
