Audacity 3.7.7 Issues

,

I just downloaded the latest update (3.7.7) for my Mac Studio running Tahoe 26.2. Audacity crashed twice (just quit - no error messages or other information) and also didn’t allow me to play or edit music I’d pasted into a “new” window (all the “controls” were greyed out and unresponsive) on at least 2 other occasions. I’ve removed 3.7.7 and gone back to the previous verion (3.7.5) and have had no issues working on the same files.

I don’t know if anyone else has had similar issues but I thought I should mention these since my experience suggests there are some issues in version 3.7.7 that need attention.

I am wondering if it is a compatibility issue with Mac OS Tahoe 26.2. I am using Audacity 3.7.7 on a Mac Studio running Mac OS Sequoia 15.7.3 with no problem. I posted a question below about compatibility with Tahoe and got no response so far.

Audacity 3.7.7 works for me with macOS 26.2 on a Macbook Pro M4.

You could try trashing the audacity.cfg file.

Thanks for the inputs but it seems to me that the issue has to be something about 3.7.7 because 3.7.5 works perfectly. I guess I can install 3.7.7 again then remove the cfg file to see if that has any effect and report back but hate to spend more time on this.

Just as a note, my Studio has the M2 Max - so if 377 works with @mrosenstein ‘s M4 laptop maybe there’s some difference lurking in the system software for the different platforms/processors that’s causing the issue. I dunno.

EDIT TO UPDATE: I reinstalled 3.7.7 and deleted the .cfg file (lost all of my custom keyboard shortcuts in the process too). It seems to be working - I did a few edits and didn’t have any issues so maybe it’s no longer an issue. I don’t know. Time will tell.
