Audacity 3.7.5 crashes when normalizing

On ubuntu 24.04, I did a local full build of 3.7.5, which appeared to complete normally. The resulting audacity works fine (I haven’t tested every feature yet), BUT when using normalize (or loudness normalize) it crashes. If I ran it from a commandline, this output occurs:

1. Copy the clip to make it longer, then normalize.
2. Go to Help → Diagnostics → Reset Configuration.
3. Export as WAV and re-import.
4. Update or reinstall Audacity.
5. Or use Effect → Amplify instead.

However I don’t see much there that I find helpful;

1: how does making it longer help? it still crashes

2: help→diagnostics doesn’t contain a ResetConfiguration option

3: doesn’t help

4: as I stated in my original posting, I just built from source and installed. I don’t see how doing a reinstall is going to help.

5: might help, if it wasn’t so tedious to adjust the level so it is (a) louder, and (b) not being clipped.

I have been using audacity for many years (thanks to the team for making this possible!!) and have created a very basic macro to normalize a file and export it as mp3. Having said this, the macro worked flawlessly for years. I am currently using version 3.7.5 as AppImage and the macro fails with the error message “Cannot proceed to export. /home/username/Documents does not have write permissions.“ However, the error occurs only if the macro tries to access that path. I have the feeling my problem might be related to the fact that I am using the AppImage of 3.7.5. Could you just try, whether this exist also in your built version? Many thanks in advance.
