I’ve been using Audacity for many years now but I suddenly could not record from my PC with either Audio files or via online sites like YouTube. Things I’ve tried below…and didn’t work.
Checked for new Audio drivers….their good.
Checked Audio settings on PC and Audacity. All applicable tabs that should be checked seem to be checked, like loopback and such.
Tested recording from my Yamaha soundboard (MME) with DJ app and microphones…all worked fine.
Uploaded MP3 file from computer directly into Audacity. It both played as well as allowed editing and exporting just fine.
Basically everything I use this system for works EXCEPT recording off my computer! What has changed that I’m not seeing? I know that Windows 10 is no longer supported as MS has dropped it and goes only back to 11 now. Could this be a problem?
I don’t know , i’m new to Audacity , but at first i could not record youtube either , i think i had to go to “ tracks” , then i added a stereo track , then i had to put my pc sound output to speakers. Been working so far.
Make sure to select the loopback device where the sound is coming-out (normally your regular soundcard/speakers).
And check the recording and playback volume sliders (“hidden” under the recording & playback meters) to make sure they are turned-up.
Note that WASAPI can’t record unless there is something to record so the audio has to start first. It can record a silent stream but it can’t record “nothing”.
If that doesn’t help tell us the symptoms. Are you getting an error message? A silent recording? Recording won’t start?
Recording doesn’t even start. I am using WASAPI and there is music to record, audio volume is also up. It simply will not record. It acts like it’s going to, setting up, though the needle doesn’t move.
