The program says to to file / open but that or import do not work.
How big is your project file? Are you willing to share it to let someone else try ie me?

Are you getting any kind of error message?
Open should work if the AUP3 is good but you can’t import an AU3P project.
…AUP3 files are a bit more “fragile” than regular audio files (WAV, MP3, etc.) It’s “good practice” to keep backups and to export as WAV or FLAC whether you’re making a project file or not.
Unfortunitly this was a WAV file output from a board at one of our gigs. The engineer gave us a flash drive from the board. When I checked it, it was an AUP3. I have Audacity but as I stated it will not open. I can’t reach the engineer he is in Florida, and we are back in NJ. Could his version be older and not updated?
It is 1.39 GBs. I can add it to drop box. It is one set of our gig.
This is confusing. How can it be both? Could you clarify, please?
Thanks.

I know of two Project formats: The older AUP project Info file with a _DATA folder carrying the sound, and the newer, single AUP3 file.
I agree. I think we can pause right here until you contact the Florida team and find out what’s going on. I super-duper doubt someone recorded a live presentation on Audacity, or, went to the trouble to convert a concert to Audacity format for presentation to you.
I can sense an ordinary mistake and if you resolve it may cure the error you have.

Agreed!
Here’s what I found so far. Whether I try to open or import the file, I get the same message:
“Cannot import AUP3 try File>Open instead”. I tried simply renaming a copy to x.wav and opening or importing gave an ‘Incorrect Filetype’ error. Trying the project tools I got an error saying ‘File not a database’. So, at the risk of stating the obvious, it’s probably NOT an Audacity project file. I got no clues from opening in a hex editor.
I tried!

There are darker possibilities, but a production mistake is by far the most likely.
