A few years back I was using Audacity to digitise from cassette tapes under Debian 11. I had to put the project aside and am now trying to revive is using Audacity 3.7.3 under Debian 13 (Trixie). I can no longer play any audio through Audacity. If I press “Play”, the pointer does not move and no sound comes out. “Record” works, but I can not play back what is recorded. Audacious plays OK, and Ardour is also OK. I’m about to move the project over to Ardour, but I do prefer Audacity (in its old form, when “Play” worked). I’ve tried to follow every suggestion I’ve seen on this forum, but to no avail. Thanks for any help.
More experiments. It turns out that Audacity does not like the HDMI connection. I re-plugged and fed the speakers directly through the sound card, specifying Analog to Audacity, and I have sound and “Play” now works. Unfortunately nothing else does, so I will have to switch to the sound card when using Audacity and use the HDMI connection for everything else.
