I saw another post that mentioned changing the buffer setting, but I’m not sure there is such a thing on a Mac.
Also, I notice that this only happens when I’m editing a file that includes one track from someone else. (We each record ourselves for the podcast and put the recordings together.) When it’s a file I completely recorded myself on my Mac, this doesn’t happen.
I am not a mac person. I have a theory.
The audio file you are getting from the other person may have timestamps out of order or other problems with the stream of data. Try opening their file by itself with Audacity, and exporting it. They try importing that file into your project to see if the stuttering persists.

I have this happen with my speaker output automatically changes to 16kHz when I load Izotope RX. Playback changes to normal when I go into MIDI Controller and change it back to 48kHz.
