Audacity 2.3.3 and Mac OS Catalina 10.15.3

I’m aware of the incompatibility between Audacity and Mac OS Catalina and the documented workaround for it:

Go to Applications>Utilities>Terminal. Launch Terminal app. In Terminal dialog type:
open/Applications/Audacity.app/Contents/MacOS/Audacity
This will open Audacity and then Terminal will actually ask for the correct permissions.

I have indeed tried this many times. The problem that I’m having is that when I get to this step I don’t have an option to switch back to my external microphone. My Mac locks it to MacBook Microphone and MacBookSpeakers with NO option to toggle to my Scarlett USB microphone/ Scarlett Speakers.
Does anyone have a solution? I’ve looked through YouTube but, most tutorials don’t mention this issue. Thanks!

To use USB audio devices with Audacity, it’s best to connect the devices before launching Audacity.
If a device is added after launching Audacity, you will need to “Rescan Audio Devices” (near the bottom of the “Transport” menu) to allow Audacity to see them.

Hi, The problem I am having is this - open/Applications/Audacity.app/Contents/MacOS/Audacity: No such file or directory
and yet Audacity 2.3.3 is there in the Applications?

You are missing a space between “open” and “/Applications/Audacity.app/Contents/MacOS/Audacity”

Try using copy and paste. Here is the correct command:

open /Applications/Audacity.app/Contents/MacOS/Audacity
