Audacity 2.1.1 and Windows 10 Audio input error solution

Love Audacity. I upgraded from Win8 to Win10 this morning and Audacity would not record with the Conexant smartaudio HD on my Lenovo Yoga. I updated to Audacity 2.1.2 and updated drivers but to no effect. I then sumbled upone a fix which worked for me. Right click on the speaker icon on lower RHS corner. Select Recording Devices. Double click on the microphone icon and then click Advanced tab. Unclick Enable audio enhancements and save the changes. Hope it works for others. Screenshot attached. Cam

Thanks for your post. What error or problem did you receive when enhancements were checked?

Yes it is normally recommended to turn off enhancements for internal or external microphones: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/faq_recording_troubleshooting.html#enhancements.

Thanks, Cam. It is unusual that enabling enhancements would cause error opening sound device. DId you go to your computer manufacturer’s site and download the latest Windows 10 audio drivers for your computer model?

Thanks Gale. Yes updating the drivers was my first step. I have the most up to date ones. I then upgraded to the latest version of Audacity. Enabling enhancements turns the error on. Disabling turns it off. It’s a switch!!! Thanks for your reply but at least it’s working now! Cam
