Audacity 2.1.0 won't save project

I am running Audacity 2.1.0 on OSX Yosemite 10.10.3. I am new to recording software and saved a test last week. Had problems w/mic and returned for new Yeti USB. Now i can record but when I try to save the project I get ERROR SAVING PROJECT message.
Could not save your project. Perhaps it is not writeable or the disc is full. How can I fix?

Try saving the project with a very simple name (no dates) and do it to the desktop instead of the Audacity default. Did that work?

Nope. That’s if i try to “save as”. And if i try to just “save project” I get ERROR SAVING PROJECT couldn’t write to file Error opening file

It’s important that you try to save it to the Desktop, and not where Audacity wants to save it. The Audacity default location doesn’t always work very well.

Also describing exactly what’s happening is good. We can’t see what your screen is doing.

What’s the show and how long is it? Where is the system drive? Inside the machine or somewhere else? Are you trying to save the show to a network drive?

Export the track as WAV (export multiple if you have more than one track). You can import the WAV file(s) into a new project.

Then if you need to save a project (for example because you have envelope points you want to keep), force quit Audacity, reboot the computer, and when you restart Audacity it should offer to recover the project.

The reboot may cure the saving problem (but you can still only save where you have permission to save to).
