Audacity 2.0.6 on Windows XP. Message 14001

Hello. I am trying to load Audacity 2.0.6 on a Windows XP 32-bit computer and have received error message 14001. Using the link in your manual I have tried to load Microsoft Visual C++2008SP1 Redistributable Package (X86) but have received a reply from Microsoft saying that this download is no longer available. Is there anywhere else I can obtain it? Or do you know any other way round this problem?

Thanks for your manual - comprehensive and detailed yet subjects are easy to find. Well done!

Mike.

The problem is that Windows XP has been obsolete (unsupported by Microsoft) for a long time. I don’t think there are any official download locations remaining, and I would not want to recommend any (potentially dangerous) unofficial alternatives.

Have you successfully run any version of Audacity on that machine?
There are some even older versions of Audacity that you could try: https://code.google.com/archive/p/audacity/downloads?

There is a further problem. This is a forum, users helping each other, not a help desk. We may need to wait for someone using the same system that you are to post assistance.

That’s weird, I found two related downloads, nut none exactly equal two what you describe:

Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86) [NON SP1]

Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package MFC Security Update [MFC?]
