So I have the ancient .RM file ( Realmedia ) and I want to load it into Audacity and tinker with the audio. It’s a surestream file so there are more than one audio stream in the file.
When I load it into Audacity , it recognizes this and gives me the option of which stream to load.
If I pick the first one (SIPR codec) it loads , but playback is distorted , sounds like a chipmunk.
If I pick the second one ( COOK codec ) it opens a blank track.
I don’t know anything about it but a quick search says VLC is supposed to be able to play it. Which means it can convert it to WAV, although conversion in VLC is somewhat “clunky”.
If you can find ANYTHING that can play it, you can record it with Audacity while it’s playing.
The same website that suggested VLC claims that CloudConvert (which I’ve never used) can convert it.
But I also learned that RM is a “container” and these tools may not work with COOK or SIPR variations.
I have XMedia Recode which supports a ship-load of formats but for RealMedia it only lists AAC and RealAudio .
Indeed - I can do it by playing the file with realplayer and then route to audacity. Thing is I wanted a quick / automated solution … the audio files are 1hr long each and I would have to babysit the process.
