Hello! Long time, first time.
Just played around with the new 4.0 and ASIO support. Works like a dream once it’s all set up!
What I didn’t realize was that I had the Playback and Recording devices weren’t matching. One was set to the FL Studio ASIO and the other was the Focusrite USB ASIO.
The ensuing “ASIO device mismatch” popup hindered my ability to close down things like mic monitoring before I could deal with the root issue. (Which, in and of itself took a minute but that’s an id10t error on my end.)
Probably a noob mistake overall to set one and not the other, but since we are trying to noob-proof Audacity 4 as much as possible, it might be useful to change the behavior when a device mismatch happens.
Some ideas:
-Put a device selection dropdown in the error message / have the error bring up an I/O setup dialogue
-Have Audacity check for device mismatches upon device selection
-Bring up the Audio Setup dialogue on fresh install
