api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll is missing

Hello Audacity Team,

Audacity is a great audio software!! It runs well on my Vista machine.

I just downloaded 2.3.3 on my windows 8 machine. When I clicked the finish button I saw a message that said “api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll is missing”. So here I am asking for help about the message.

Thank you for any help,

You need to download something from Microsoft,

Hello Trebor,

Thank you, for this information. I am working with your information but have not fixed the issue yet. Audacity does run well on my W10 and Vista machines. I will get back with this message board if required.

Trebor,
Your information did FIX the issue. I first uninstalled Audacity. Downloaded this (vc_redist.x64.exe) thing for Win 8.1. The computer wanted to restart after the download. Then I installed Audacity again. The 86 version of the thing threw me off course for quite a while.

Thank you for your expertise!!!

I try installing audacity on my window 7 32bit but it is giving me error the program can’t start because api ms win crt runtime is missing

You need a Windows update for “Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio”.
Download and install x86: vc_redist.x86.exe
You can get it from Microsoft here: Latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads | Microsoft Learn

Reboot your computer after installing.

Please note that we no longer officially support Windows 7 because it is obsolete.
