Alesis MultiMix 8USB Mixer with USB Audio

hi guys, im planning to buy a Alesis MultiMix 8USB Mixer with USB Audio…can i use the said mixer setup on different chanels or different
tracks with audacity 1.2.6 (physically, don’t know how to set it up, shame on me guys)…is it compatible? would it be possible to record each of my
band member session simultaneously? i mean, is it possible to setup alesis with audacity and be able to record each chanel(e.g. guitar 1, guitar 2,
drums, bass and vocals) altogether and will be desgnated to a specific track or channel. So when time comes that i will need to edit or to delete
unwanted sounds on a specific track or even the whole track(bass for instance) to have a better work output. can i do it with audacity alone? or
should i need a mixer? i apologize im not used to this stuff… :unamused:
If it is possible, how would i setup it up? or can u advise me of what kind or brand of mixer do i need to buy? other than alesis…note this is
only for home music recording? thanks for such a brillliant product, kudos audacity!
im sorry for my english, i must admit im not that good on it. help me guys i need advised from an expert…let say sound engineer…lol

No, you don’t want that mixer.

Alesis did something funny with their multimixers. The FireWire models all supply each channel individually and allow you to record more than 2 channels. But the USB models all send only a stereo signal to the computer.

With the USB model you will not be able to record each channel separately. With the FireWire model, you will.

right… i will need a firewire model. what brand should i buy? you mean with firewire model i will be able to make a recording on different chanel or track or whatever it is, altogeter at the same time and each track will be broke down separately for editing purpose. And before i forget, that should be compatible with audacity. right? many thanks, i really appreciate it… :stuck_out_tongue:

Right, each input channel will show up on a separate track in Audacity.

I can’t tell you what brand to buy, I’ve never used a mixer with a computer before. I have an M-Audio Delta 1010LT PCI card that I can use to get 8 simultaneous inputs.

Note that this isn’t true of all FireWire mixers. Mixers are a bit of a mixed bag, it’s up to the drivers to provide the right kind of input. I believe that Alesis’ FireWire mixers are set up correctly for use with Audacity. I don’t know about any other brands.
