adding music to an existing track

Hi,

This is my first use of Audacity, so am a complete novice My question is …
How can I add more music to an track already placed in the play area in order to increase the playing time. ?
I see no info in the help topics, or perhaps I not looking in the right place.

Can anyone help me ?

I know Audacity 2.1.2 has a tool that duplicates an existing track later and thus makes it longer. But I can’t find it quickly. Still looking.

You can import two different clips and Audacity will stack them one above the other and play both at once. You can then use the Time Shift Tool to push the bottom one to the right (later) so it starts after the first one ends.

http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/time_shifting.html

You can use plain Edit > Duplicate to make two copies of the existing tack one above the other. Then time Shift the bottom clip sideways.

Let us know if you get stuck and where.

Hi,

Thank you for your help ,it’s all working fine.
I wish to add this music as background music to a web site , so what format should I save it as?
The site will display only the On/Off button and a volume control

Look at the formats or embedded players that the site allows. Usually you would choose MP3. You don’t want WAV for the finished file because it will be too large to stream.

If you choose MP3, add LAME to your computer. Choose the MP3 option for “Constant Bit Rate”. If you are not using the latest Audacity 2.1.2, click the Options… button after selecting “MP3 files” to choose the MP3 export options.
