ACX Check Plug In

Every time I attempt to download the ACX check plug in, I do not get the normal download prompt. Instead, this immediately pops up (see attachment #1). I click on the “Choose Applications” and it will not allow me to select any. Audacity and all others look like this (see attachment #2). I have uninstalled audacity and re-installed. I was able to successfully add the LAME plug in and had no issues. Can someone please advise me on what to do? I am desperate!

Thank you for any and all suggestions!

There’s a trick to this and I don’t remember what it is… Searching.

I am desperate!

I hope not. It’s not unusual for new readers to go through weeks of preparation and troubleshooting to get to a posting.

The microphone makers love you to think you can put their microphone on the kitchen table, brew a nice cup of tea and squeeze out an audiobook.

It’s more involved than that.

I went through these steps (thank you for your time with trying to help me). However, this was already ticked off…see attachment. I was able to successfully install the LAME plug in…just not the ACX Check. At first I was getting the download thing that apears in the top right when I down load something (you know the thing that lists what you have downloaded. Now that isn’t even appearing. I am just getting that pop up telling me there is no application set to open…blah blah blah. I am stuck. I can’t find anything on the internet to explain possibities either.

Okay…so I went to safari and tried from there rather than chrome. I didn’t get the popl up but when I l click the download I now get this…(see attachment).

2/3 home.

Right-click or Control-Tap the file > Get INFO. Scroll down to Name and Extension. Do Not hide the extension. Get rid of the .txt on the end. The download service did that by accident. It’s a Nyquist .ny file, not a text (.txt) file

Double click on audacity. Drag the file into the Plugins folder.

ACX Check appears under Analyze, not Effects. Add Remove plugins…

(I know I’m sounding so computer illiterate right now, but…) . Exactly where do I click to right click the file? I mean where do I put my cursor and click?

You’re wonderful for helping me!

YOU ARE A GENIUS!!! This worked! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

I honestly appreciate you so much.

Have a wonderful day.

ACX Check is not without its flaws. It needs to see at least 3/4 second of pure, clean background noise somewhere in the performance to give an accurate Noise or NoiseFloor reading. If it doesn’t find it, it will measure whatever it can find and display that. If that’s you shuffling in your chair or breathing loudly, the Noise reading will be way louder than it needs to be.

This effect is super important because all home readers fail noise. ACX Noise quieter than -60dB means background room noise has to be 1000 times quieter than your speaking voice. Can you tell if your computer is on just by listening? Kiss of death.

That’s also why, if you struggle with noise forever, stop using the computer to record the performance.

That is a dedicated sound recorder that delivers a desirable product and makes no noise in normal operation.

Thanks, Koz! I will look into that, for sure.
