ACX Check not matching ACX screening

Hello! Any suggestions how to fix this issue: I run the ACX Check plugin thru my Audacity program. The peak levels pass (-3.17), the RMS levels pass (-22.91) , and the Noise floor passes (-65.6). However, when I upload the file to the ACX site, I get an error message saying "RMS is too low. Raise the level of this file 0.1 dB.(the value is showing up as -23.1 dB - which conflicts with the level Audacity is showing.)
Any suggestions? Thank you!

I’m not sure anybody knows exactly how ACX calculates RMS values. It’s not a calculation for the whole file but an average (or RMS) of the RMS values of time segments. (Audacity’s calculation may not match exactly).

And when you compress to MP3 the levels usually change a bit too.

The Audiobook Mastering Macro should put you more in the middle of the RMS range while limiting the peaks safely below -3dB.

Your noise is going to increase by the same amount you boost the volume but it should still pass.

Thank you , Ill give it a try!

This can bring us, oddly enough, to a recording technique. Do you listen to yourself on headphones while you’re performing?

Given that you don’t have a recording engineering setting volume while you perform, this is a terrific second best. Your odd readings may be simply voice volume wandering during the chapters. If your chapters are even, then the ACX AudioLab tools and ACX-Check should come out really close.

The Mastering Macro doesn’t have a compressor, limiter, or other serious sound processors. It thinks each chapter is even, just set wrong. If you’re depending on us to process wild recordings, then you may have a long wait.
