ACX Audio Lab reports RMS too low

Using Audacity version 3.7.1

ACX’s audio lab reports this sample:
Issue Type: RMS (dB RMS)
Value: -27.4
Resolution: RMS is too low. Raise the level of this file 4.4 dB

How can I achieve this, please?

Also, feedback on other possible issues welcome. This sample should sound like a little girl is narrating.

It’s possible to make it technically pass ACX …

But it may not pass evaluation by human “quality assurance”: it has reverb[eration] from the room.

Thanks, Trebor, for the visual!

Ah, yes, there is that little issue remaining. Clearly, I don’t have a "studio, " nor do I want to invest in setting one up. This was to be a one-time project, all of 1003 words.

Shucks!

Do you have a car? There was a worker-bee who routinely turned in terrific voice tracks and I know he has a noisy home. I asked him how he did it and he said, “My Toyota.”

A cousin to that is night recording in your overstuffed garage.

If it’s really short you can record under a blanket.

There’s a sample of that here, somewhere.

Koz,

Oh, my goodness! The video is hilarious. That said, I’ll try it. Thanks for the advice … and the laugh.

There are other ways, too. I designed a “Kitchen Table Recoring Studio” using home store plastic pipes and furniture moving blankets. The link is really several links smashed together, so keep scrolling.

Clever solution! Thanks again!
