A music program to record tunes for use in Audacity

I am using version 2.0.3

I am a primary music teacher. I am looking to record simple tunes for my children to use and manipulate in Audacity. I could record directly from a keyboard but I’m looking for a way of recording and saving the tunes, for them to be imported into Audacity.

Anyone help please?

The current version is 2.0.5: Audacity ® | Download for Windows .

What do you mean by “rescued” tunes in your topic title?

A keyboard can be recorded in Audacity, but not using MIDI. Please see Audacity Manual .

Do you want to record a song that you find online? For example do you want to record an online piano? If so please see Tutorial - Recording Computer Playback on Windows - Audacity Manual .

Are you looking for downloadable music? If so, see Missing features - Audacity Support .

Audacity is not really a program for creating music inside itself. The nearest we have is some simple sequencer plug-ins: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Nyquist_Generate_Plug-ins#Rndtone . To install Nyquist plug-ins, see here: Missing features - Audacity Support .

To save audio in Audacity for your computer, use File > Export… . If you want to export MP3, add LAME to your computer: Audacity Manual .

If you want to create music using a score, Audacity cannot help you. See: Missing features - Audacity Support .

If that does not help please can you be much more exact about what you are trying to do.

Sorry about the typo - was in a rush and on my phone, as forums are not permitted at school. Thanks for the suggestions and I will look at them later.

I know that Audacity is not a program to play music and that is what I am looking for. I want to play a tune, save it and then allow the children to import it into Audacity.

You can look at the link I already gave Missing features - Audacity Support .

Not all of those programs give you a keyboard to play a song on. Anvil Studio does.
