I have audacity 3.7.3 installed in my system, but it doesn’t function as intended, considering Audacity’s reputation.
But whatever lacunae this Audacity has is compensated in excess by the Audacity cAppImage I now use.
I have observed a curious aspect:
Assuming that the Audacity 3.7.7 appimage is running in my system, if I right click on an audio file to open it with the “Open With/ Audacity” left click, Audacity 3.7.7 is the program that opens the file, not the system’s installed 3.7.3. Curious indeed, but in a beneficent way!
However, if 3.7.7 isn’t running, then the default 3.7.3 opens an audio file.
Not only this, all the tools, macros, filters, including Nyquist prompt tools, etc., installed with my system’s audacity 3.7.3, function seamlessly with the appimage.
The severe drawbacks of the installed audacity is nowhere visible.
Hence, the AppImage Audacity 3.7.7 rightly deserves high admiration.
At least, the team Audacity developers have one developed tool working really well.
But Audacity 3.7.7 also suffers from the same defect. An ogg file is opened as 16bit PCM, as Mr. Steve, my hero, my teacher, had shown me, not as 32-bit float. But one positive: it opens the file at 96kHz sample rate, but may be because I had saved the file in 96kHz?!
The current audacity team should look into this defective aspect very seriously.
Does the AppImage have the audacity-openvino Noise Suppression module?
I’m on CachyOS (an Arch Linux variant) and have tried to use the Noise Suppression feature both in the Snap and in the AUR package, and so far haven’t been able to get it to work.
Can you confirm whether or not the AppImage is able to use it? I’m curious to know if it’s included as “mod-openvino” in Edit → Preferences → Modules .

Not an Linux expert here, but my first guess would be that the AI models have to be installed, which are probably not included in the package. They are really huge files.
