3.7.4 bugs I reported not fixed

I see there is a new 3.7.4, but reading through the list of changes it seems that the bugs I posted about have not been fixed and users of this new release are already reporting new serious issues. I am glad I decided to go back to the stable 3.3.3, with no no crashing or other issues. I do hope that one day I can upgrade to a later trouble free version, but I cannot see this happening any day soon :frowning:

Development is now focussed on Audacity 4. There may be a few more bug fixes to Audacity 3, but we’re not expecting much before Audacity 4.0 is released.

There is no official release date yet for Audacity 4, but my guess (and it’s only a guess) is some time next year.

I had issues from the start after downloading 3.7.4. Every single edit took several seconds of freezing before the edit would take, and the program would eventually freeze and crash. It took me a day and a half to sort it after downloading portable ones and having to go onto a different pc, save here, do this etc etc. Eventually settled on 3.3 with no problems whatsoever.
I’m a bit wary of updates now…

where did you get the 3.3.3 version?

I thankfully had saved the 3.7.3 dmg file, so have reverted to that. praying it works better than 3.7.4 which is more flakey than a cadbury’s chocolate bar! Constant errors, making it almost impossible to record, and then when you do, impossible to edit, meaning a complete waste of an hour! Sooo frustrating.

On tke Audacity-website www. audacityteam. org klick on “Downloads” on the very top of the page (next to the FAQ link), not on the Download-Link for 3.7.4.

On the next page, click on “Download older versions from Fosshub”

There, search for the version which is working for your operating system.

Thankfully saved 3.7.3? I had nothing but trouble and had to ditch it, and projects saved in that version are not unfortunately backwards compatible. Luckily I only did a few projects. 3.3.3 is very reliable and I am glad to be back with it.

And Audacity 4 will probably be Window 11 only, and that will probably have it’s own bugs.

You make great point there actually. I hadn’t thought about that. Win 10 will be EOL before Audacity 4 arrives and nothing I own can be upgraded to Win 11. It will have to be old versions or Linux only for me.

yeah, it seems likely that the 3.7.x series is going to be the last few releases of Audacity 3.x. We’re still looking to fix critical issues and crashes in it, but I’m afraid anything lower-priority will be addressed in Audacity 4 instead. You are very welcome to submit patches if you can figure out a fix yourself though.

The compatibility will depend on what exact version of Qt we’ll end up using. The compatibility list for the current Qt 6.9 release can be found here: Supported Platforms | Qt 6.9

Someone will correct me. 3. 3. 3 is stable but it will not connect to the audio.com on-line-storage. 3.6.2 will connect to the on-line drives, but can have minor stability issues.
