3.61 Frequent crashes after updating from 3.42 on Ubuntu

Previous installed Audacity from the Ubuntu store distribution was 3.42. It was stable.
After updating to 3.61 I get frequent crashes.

They happens when:

  1. I play Musescore on another task and switch back and play Audacity. The tracks will continue to play but no control. After a while get “not responding” and forced close.
  2. I display the Mixer and make changes to volume while the tracks are playing.
    “Not Responding”

During start up I get the following messages EVERY time I start it:

  1. CDK_BACKEND =x11 could not be found…
  2. UBUNTU_MENUPROXY =0 could not be found…
  3. audacity could not be found …
    Both dialogs indicate “removed from list of re3cent files”

Restart brings up the recovery dialog and the project is intact.
Immediately saving before more work does not prevent further crashes.
