BAD UPDATE … FOLKS …

For Such A Respected SOUND ENGINEERING SOFTWARE App …

What audio drivers do you have?
Which devices are enabled in the Windows Sound control panel?
Do you have any “virtual drivers” installed (such as “Voicemeeter”, “TotalRecorder”, or “VAC”)?

Please give more details.

These are the Audio Drivers and the Sound Controller on my Device, Dear Friend.

(AND more than 3 Dozens PLUGINS from Outside of your Library Have Gone MISSING …)

Other third party Plugins from the Audacity Plugin Folder has now gone missing …

Where were they installed?

I suspect that problem is caused by incompatibility between your “virtual” audio devices and the updated “PortAudio” library used by Audacity 2.4.2.
You may be able to solve the problem by uninstalling the virtual devices (“DFX” and “AnySoft Virtual Sound Device”).
At this time, that is the only workaround that I’m aware of, other than downgrading to Audacity 2.3.3.

A solution to this problem was posted here: [Bug] 2.4.2 NOT detecting my sound devices ! [SOLVED] - #15 by iBenny

Hello Steve,

You have correctly pointed out the incompatibility of Either or both the other Drivers ( A} Any Video Converter and or B} DFX Sound Enhancer ).
After I disabled both those Drivers the installation went smooth and All requisites Play and Record Devices of AUDACITY were visible, Of which I have generated Two debug report of both POST and PRE stages of above mentioned Drivers, to help evaluate for an active Solution.

But I have to say that both the above mentioned drivers were present on my device even during the previous version’s Installation of 2.3.3 which went without any glitch or problem at that time; indicating, v2.3.3 is compatible with both the above mentioned drivers.

Also when first the problem with v2.4.2 cropped up, I had uninstalled v2.4.2 and then Re-Installed v2.3.3 with both Any Video Converter and DFX Sound enhancer Drivers left in Active state … the installation was successful Each time.

Please Find and Provide a Solution A.S.A.P because Now, to Use Audacity, Each time I have to DISABLE those above Drivers to be able for Audacity to show it’s Playback And Recording Devices.

There probably should be a way for Solution.

Thanks and Regards.

Audacity 2.3.3 uses an earlier version of the PortAudio library.
We are monitoring the “no audio devices” issue that affects a few users but have not yet confirmed the cause. Common factors that have been identified in most cases are the presence of “virtual devices” and Windows not being fully updated. I’d suggest that you check that Windows is fully updated - that may fix the problem.
