2.3.5 Audacity, Win10, desktop, usermanual problems

Hello

I wonder whether someone could assist me, please

The OS is Win10

With the previous version of Audacity, everything worked fine.

Now, I’ve installed Audacity 3.2.5 desktop

It has no usermanual. Audacity tries to connect to the online manual.

I’ve manually installed a usermanual 2.3.0 (zip file) but Audacity doesn’t detect it. Again, it tries to connect to the one online. Also, when I manually install that usermanual, it doesn’t create folders called “help”, “manual”, etc. As a matter of fact, it doesn’t create any folder at all.

What am I doing wrong??

In advance, thank you very much for your kind help

If you run the installer audacity-win-3.2.5-x64.exe the manual should also get installed.

FFmpeg (for audio formats that Audacity doesn’t support natively) is an optional-additional install.

Not any more. They stopped including the manual a few versions ago.
I think the only reason that the manual still exists (online) is because Peter (waxcylinder) has continued to update it and the development team haven’t pulled the plug on it yet.

The new “Support Center” is here: https://support.audacityteam.org/
There’s also a new discord channel: Audacity

You’re not doing anything wrong. See my previous post.

The option to select a local manual was removed on 20th Sept 2022 (Use FromInternet as a default manual location · audacity/audacity@6b99773 · GitHub)

However, what I’m finding (on Linux) is that if the manual is installed in the correct location, Audacity still finds it.

Did you extract the contents of the ZIP file (this is required).
If so, where did you install the extracted “help” folder?

If you’re unsure of the correct location, try this (I’m guessing this will work the same on Windows as it does on Linux - we’ll see )

 1. Launch Audacity (If it’s already running, quit Audacity and re-launch)
 2. Open “Help menu > Diagnostics > Show Log”
 3. Copy the contents of the log and post it into your reply.

I’m trying to post a reply, but, in the scrolling section below, it seems to end up at the top of the thread, and not (as it should be) at the end. Sorry about this. I’ll try again later.
