It appears the Audacity 2.2.1 Manual zip file is broken in some way.
When opening inside the zip using 7-Zip, it is possible to see all files as expected, as compared to the same files from the Windows Installer.
However, upon extracting the zip, many of the images, along with what appears to be random folders, do not exist.
When attempting to extract, 7-Zip errors with “Unavailable start of archive, Warning, The archive is open with offset”
I was able to confirm that this did not occur with the 2.2.0 manual zip. It doesn’t look like the RCs had copies of the manual available as a zip, so I can’t confirm between 2.2.0 and 2.2.1 when the error occurred.
Please see the attached log from 7-Zip and comparison from WinMerge below.
Thanks steve. I’m comfortable with both the installer as recommended, as well as with the zip files.
I’m currently packaging the PortableApps.com 2.2.1 package of Audacity, and noted the error when preparing the package.
If the zip files were not available, it would be a minor inconvenience to me personally, however for anyone not wishing to use an installer, or blocked from using one, this could prove to be more of a problem.
With that said, I note that only the manual is affected, as the program zip appears to not be affected.
