an anyone help me here.I have just installed the latest version 2.3.0. and i can’t get rid of the HUM,if i turn record volume down then there is hardly any volume,if i turn it up all i hear is load hum,i am recording from a tape player head phone socket to rear microphone jack at back of computer.Any answers would be appreciated.

Try the line-input on your soundcard (and select line-in as your recording device).
The mic input is about 100 times more sensitive than the line-input. (And headphone outputs are approximately line-level.)
