ok, got a successful build from souce…finally! looks like I finally got it fixed using this guide for Ubuntu Wily 15.10:

the key was : …/configure --disable-dynamic-loading
…/configure --disable-dynamic-loading
first time I’ve seen the --disable-dynamic-loading option in any guides, but it was the factor that successfully built the app, after failing every other time I’ve tried (probably at least 10 previous failed builds)…
I still don’t know what the issue is with installing from apt-get or synaptic but it doesn’t work. I wanted to try Mint but said no thanks after seeing that it is packaged ver 2.06 still. a little behind for Mint don’t you think? The 16.04 version of Ubuntu Studio is working fine now. Other than crashes trying to add plug-ins, but that is becoming old hat.
