As I recall, my problem was simply that when I plugged in the ACX numbers to everything, I couldn’t get all three of them past the ACX Check at the same time. And every time I changed one number so I could get it past ACX Check, one of the other two numbers would then fail ACX Check. What finally saved me was that, through experimentation, I found what was for me the “magic” number in RMS Normalizer that always kept all three numbers passing ACX Check. Once in a while, after I had done some hand-mastering (all those “s” sounds and hard consonants) one of my ACX numbers would change to failing ACX Check, but I found that all I had to do to get it back to passing ACX Check was to re-apply the Normalizer --if it was on -3.5 I just changed it to -3.6; if it was already on -3.6, I changed it to -3.5. That worked every time but once (I was trying to get something shouty past ACX Check --I found that all I had to do that one time was to again apply RMS Normalizer).
Here’s what I did. I don’t understand why it always worked for me, but it did.
- Get Noise Profile, apply
- Apply your Notch Filter
- Apply your Low Rollout for Speech
- Apply a bit of Treble Cut
- Apply a bit of Base Boost
- Apply RMS Normalizer set on -19.90
- Apply Limiter
