need to reduce hissing

What might be a good way to reduce the hissing or lisping in my voice? Is there a filter? It’s not extreme but I’m doing a demo voice over and it needs to be a little better. I’m using a pop filter on the mic. Otherwise it’s all good.

DeEsser plugins … Passing RMS on Audacity 2.1.1 - #64 by Trebor

The hissing is called sibilance, if you overdo DeEssing it will sound like lisping (lith-ping).

And there’s a bookkeeping note. If you’re wildly successful, you’ll need to remember to specially prepare your voice for that client until the sun cools off. That also means you can’t trade up to a different studio without dragging the DeEsser anchor behind you.

If this is paid work you become a business with business decisions and planning needed.

I want to try the de esser plugin but I can’t find it. It’s not in my effects list. Actually I did download it I guess but Windows -I think- won’t open the file. says ‘no app associated to open this file’ . I see most all these posts are from 7 years ago. Is this effect still being used? Windows 10.

No need to open “.ny” (Nyquist) files: there is now an installer, see …
https ://manual.audacityteam.org/man/nyquist_plug_in_installer.html

After installing you will still have to enable it before it appears on the effects list, see …
https ://manual.audacityteam.org/man/manage_effects_generators_and_analyzers.html

Okay so how do I get the de esser that I’ve downloaded and which is sitting in my documents and which it won’t let me open because I don’t have an app installed that will open it-how do I get it over into Audacity?

I don’t see where the ‘file browser’ button is?

Click the ‘File Browser’ button and select the plug-in file.
Click the ‘OK’ button to install, or ‘Cancel’.
Carefully review the output message.
Use the Plug-in Manager to enable the installed plug-in.

Only recent versions of Audacity have the Nyquist plugin installer.
Otherwise you’ll have to manually drag/paste a copy of the “.ny” file into Audacity’s plugin folder,
which, just to make life more difficult, is a hidden folder in Windows …

Thanks all for your help. I got it but now just have to see how it works.

Paul-L’s De-esser ?, IMO set its threshold close to the RMS value
