Hi Steve. the guitar parts would be fills and parts and a brief solos for pretty much any of the tracks I need to work on. I have mic’s and phones and stuff. Back in the days of XP Home, and Cubase 4, and PCI slots, I had a computer put together for me by a guy who was good at that stuff. we
were naighty, and used his CD’s for XP operating system and the Cubase. I had an Audiophile 2496 which also went into the FrankenPuter. it was perfect
and survived uo into the days of Windows XP and whatever those add on slots are called in the back of the puter now. my old PC snuffed it, as PC’s wil do sometimes. I saved the sound card. great sound card by the way. and THEN, a friend gave me a used computer with Windows 10, and honestly,
I have figured out how to send and receive email and learn to loathe Windows 10. so that’s it. the 2496 won’t work in this PC, so a couple different friends who want my guitar parts on their tracks gave me some Interfaces and their best advice was that these units were “plug and play”
I DID plug and play with the old XP Home/Cubase computer. I just plugged straight in to the audiophile 2496 and hit record on the make believe “Revox”
this computer? I can’t figure it out. thanks very much for being interested!! the PC is a hand me down Dell, off lease whatever the heck it is. It runs on Windows 10, the 2 interfaces are a Roland Firewire Auido Capture FA-66, the other is a Scarlett 212 by, I think Focusrite? maybe they really are plug and play for sombody. just not me lol
It is very rare for PCs to have a built-in Firewire connection. You would probably need to buy and install a Firewire interface to be able to use that. Probably best to forget about the Roland for now.
Yes, the Scarlett is made by Focusrite, and is a very popular USB audio interface.
We see a lot of problems with this device on the forum, but that’s probably because so many people use them. They do work with Audacity, though some of their extra features may not be available. I’ve never used one myself, but from what I hear they are pretty well built and have good sound quality.
Note that the Scarlett should be plugged in and operational before you launch Audacity.
Your headphones and mic(s) should be plugged into the Scarlett.
After you have launched Audacity, select the Scarlett as the Recording and Playback devices in the Device Toolbar. (It may be listed with a generic name such as “USB Audio device”)
It comes from the old English word “pillicock”, as does the descriptive term “cock”, the latter being generally considered the more offensive / vulgar of the two abbreviations (at least that’s the case in the Midlands)
hey, thanks a lot Steve! If I DID read that version of trouble shooting the whole thing, I must have completely missed it. I’m halfway done.
I uninstalled audacity, and then went on a long ride to get a vaccine. back now, and back at it. yeah you’re right
it’s about 50/50 here in the States. people that know some of the slang about half the time mean dumbazz when they say pillock, but the other half mean dikhed, I apologize for invoking such tawdriness. it’s amazing how many know “pillock” “plonker” and even milder stuff like “tosser” or “load of cobblers” but I still defy anyone to find a Red Dwarf fan in America. I must be the only one. thanks a lot man!
